Breaking Story du Jour
www.sacramentoexecutive.com

Today, we woke up to a foiled terror plot. Yesterday, we woke up to
the Lieberman-Lamont election results. Last week, we woke up to the
Israel-Lebanon conflict. And the week before that, we focused, for a
microsecond, on what was happening in Iraq. Unless, of course, a
tractor-trailer was being chased by 20 police cars, or a baby had
fallen down a hole, or miners were trapped deep below the earth.
There is barely a second that CNN doesn't have the words Breaking
Story scrolling on the bottom of the screen these days. Once in a
great while, they change to Developing Story to ensure we don't lose
the excitement of a 'real' Breaking Story. ...

I am so sick of being shocked and awed. Could we get some balanced
coverage? Could we get some real debate? Could we get some real
experts? Could we get some real analysis? But, please, most of all,
balance. Or, try listening to BBC news for a change.

Terror plot foiled
annika.mu.nu

What is it with these terrorists and the 11th?

I was on a lot of planes during my vacation, and I didn't see a
single Muslim. Not that that means anything, but I remember noticing
it at the time. Usually there's one or two waiting at the gate
whenever I fly and I go through the usual mental gyration. You know
the one, like this: "oh there's some muslims... I wonder if I should
get on the plane... oh no then I'd look like a total racist... I
guess they look okay... gee I hope they're not terrorists." Then you
get on the plane, nothing happens and you realize you were nervous
about nothing. But of course, then something like today's arrests happen. ...

Waiting to hear...

Waiting to hear the left tell me there's no terrorist threat.

Waiting to hear the left tell me no need to monitor foreign bank transactions.

A New Political Low
marcvaldez.blogspot.com

Amazing! Remember Terry Anderson, the foreign correspondent who spent

seven years imprisoned by Hezbollah in Lebanon? He's running for
office, and his Republican opponent accuses him of being soft on
terrorism, and is using a photo of him shaking hands with his captors as proof.

Just when you think it can't get any worse....

Elk Grove council slap in our face

www.eyesofargus.net
Cowards are what they are. All of them.

I think that I can speak for a number of us in elk grove (if I don't
speak for you forgive me) when I say that what happened at the Elk
Grove City council Meeting last night was despicable.

The Majority of the Elk Grove City Council had been charged by the
Sacramento County Grand Jury to censure disgraceful Elk Grove City
councilman Michael Leary for acts against the people.

"The grand jury's June report said the City Council should openly
censure Councilman Michael Leary for threatening to deny city funds
to the Elk Grove Historical Society in order to limit political dissent."

Well, they didn't do that.

Note: To all the local Politicians (or aspiring politicians) in Elk
Grove who consistently condone Michael Leary and his actions: You
should all be ashamed of yourselves (you know who you are). At the
least any politician who has any heart would condemn in the pubic eye
the abuse of power shown by him.

Nobody should be patting him on the back. He's a disgrace. He's a
liar and he has no qualms about threatening the public.

Nightmare in Meadowview
sacrag.com
My heart goes out to the people in the Meadowview neighborhood, who are currently suffering through the most murderous year in the city's recent history--one killing a month this year, and staggeringly three in the last week. Overall, 42 murders in the city YTD represent a 35 percent increase over 2005.

Firstly, after my last string of posts about crime in the city and
the Commissioner's public response, I want to make sure I put it on
record that the men and women on the street fighting crime have my
respect and support. I wouldn't want to give them impression that I
think the uniformed cops and detectives are not trying hard to win
the war. My beef is with the attitude expressed in the leadership's
public statements--that people in crime-challeneged neighborhoods
should not worry because most of the violent crime is being committed by hardened criminals.

Well, they are at it again regarding the situation in Meadowview...

The quotes from Meadowview residents, and common sense, tell a
different story than the commissioner's office would like... "We
can't understand this, it's like a nightmare" [Inez Martinez]

"If you ignore it, you are going to have this domino effect" [Rhonda
Erwin, a community activist]

"We just walked outside our house and we saw the body. It is terrible
... We don't normally see things like this" [Alicia Short]

Contrast that with the PR stance taken by the Sac PD: Police
spokesman Terrell Marshall said most of the gang violence in the city
results from "minor disputes" and that law-abiding residents of
Meadowview should not feel targeted. ...

They are committing murder over minor disputes and that's nothing to worry about? ...
